Euless Trinity ready to reposition for title defense

SAN ANTONIO - Don't expect junior Brandon Carter to catch the state championship-winning touchdown next year.

No, he's not quitting the team.

He simply thinks he might be the one throwing the passes next season.

Carter snagged the game-winning touchdown in Euless Trinity's 41-38 overtime victory in Saturday's Class 5A Division I state championship game.

The title marked the third in five years for the Trojans, who'll be expected to challenge again next season.

Carter and plenty of title winners will return to defend their crown.

"Next year I'm thinking about going to quarterback and leading the team to another victory," Carter said.

Quarterback Willie Hubbard will graduate this spring along with 12 other starters.

Carter's notion isn't far-fetched by any means.

Trinity utilized him on passing situations when he took a pitch and then threw downfield. He completed a 42-yard pass to junior tight end Daniel Dorsey in Saturday's game.
