ThunderRidge offensive lineman Sam Jones received his first offer in December from Colorado State. Over the weekend, the coaches at the University of Colorado followed suit as well.
"During school on Friday, Coach LaRussa and Coach MacIntyre talked to (ThunderRidge head football) coach Johnson for a while. They got me out of class and gave me their junior day information. Coach LaRussa told me to give Coach MacIntyre a call and they said they'd give me an offer later that night. On Friday night, I called Coach MacIntyre and we talked for ten minutes. That is when he gave me the offer."
Jones enjoyed hearing the excellent news.
"I was pretty excited honestly. I only had one and now I have two. The second offer is just as cool as the first offer. I was excited."
The scholarship from the Buffs is something that Jones saw coming.
"I was honestly expecting an offer probably on their junior day. They were letting on that they really liked me. I thought I was going to get an offer on their junior day but they went ahead and did it."
Colorado is a school that Jones is still learning more about overall.
"The program is completely changed since last year with the whole new staff. Coach MacIntyre seems like a good guy and a good coach. I'll continue to get to know him and learn what they got going on there now."
Jones has a number of others in the picture as well recently.
"Oregon is the big one. They have been by the school three or four times and they want to get me out for a visit soon. Wyoming has been by quite a bit. CSU keeps coming by and I've been talking to Arizona State on the phone."
A final decision will come for Jones before kickoff 2013.
"Honestly I want to get it out of the way before playing my senior year."
Jones declined to name any favorites early on.
"No, not at this point. Pretty much every school that has been talking to me is something I am highly interested in."
