Ghassan Nehmeis in a unique situation where his college choice is concerned.

Does the Colorado Springs basketball star known as "Gus," go to the school he grew up watching in Colorado?

Does he go to Northern Colorado, the school his father attended?

Does the junior guard go to the school (Wyoming) his uncle used as a springboard to an NBA career spanning nearly four years?

Or, does he go out-of-state to a school with a developing basketball program in Boise State?

Whatever the end decision is, the 6-foot-3, 174-pound scorer has options and some very good ones at that. Nehme holds a scholarship offer from Northern Colorado right now, but offers from Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho State, Boise State and Nebraska-Omaha could be forthcoming.

"So far I have had at least one or two scouts at every game," Nehme said. "CU is very interested. They are just waiting until the end of the season to offer. Wyoming said they are interested, but they haven't made a decision on an offer. Northern Colorado is very interested and Boise and Idaho State are flying in next month to see me play. The coaches from Nebraska-Omaha call me at least once or twice a week."

This season Nehme has averaged 22.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game for Cheyenne Mountain, which is ranked second in the Denver Post's most recent Class 4A rankings.

"I try to be an intense player and I just get everyone else involved to get my points," Nehme said. "On the defensive side I like to play solid defense and make the other team make the mistakes. I find when they do that, it gets me easier baskets on the offensive end."

As Nehme has become more of a known quantity, the scouts at Cheyenne Mountain games have increased. Nehme said he was recently at a game in Fort Collins where there were scouts from nearly every school he has been in contact with. It is a lot to handle, but he is taking it in stride.

"To be honest, it kind of gets into your head," he said. "When you walk onto the court and you see all the schools are recruiting me. it gets to your head, but you have to grow up and learn from it. When you get to college there will be thousands of fans, so you can't let the scouts dictate how you are going to play."

How to play is one thing, but where to play in college is another. Nehme is the nephew of former Cowboy Bill Garnett and Nehme said he grew up following the Pokes. He also grew up watching Colorado basketball and he called those two his, "dream schools."

"CU and Wyoming are very close to the hometown and I have grown up watching CU and Wyoming play. they are both dream schools," he said. "I have been to CU and Wyoming on unofficials and they have been great campuses. (Wyoming Coach Larry) Shyatt is just a great guy. He does everything you would expect. My uncle played at Wyoming. The coaching staff is a great staff and thjey are having a fantastic year. I feel like I could help them and have a great four years."

Nehme said he will be going to Colorado in two weeks and Wyoming this month as well for visits. He added that he will also consider Northern Colorado, the first school to offer a scholarship.

"My dad went to UNC, so it will always be in my heart," Nehme said.
